Why do quokkas look like they are smiling?

Quokkas look smiley because of face shape, not because they are always happy. A quokka has a short snout, rounded cheeks, and a mouth shape that can curve upward. When it relaxes or chews, the expression can look like a grin to humans. It is our brain reading a friendly pattern on an animal face.
