Why do wombats make cube-shaped poop?
Wombat poop becomes cube-like because the intestine squeezes it unevenly. Inside a wombat, drying waste passes through stretchy and stiff sections of intestine. Those sections press with different strength, shaping flat sides and corners before the poop leaves the body. The cubes may help scent marks stay put.
