How do hummingbirds hover in one place?
Hummingbirds hover by beating their wings in a figure-eight motion. Most birds get lift mainly on the downstroke, but hummingbirds twist their wings so both strokes help hold them up. Their chest muscles work extremely fast, letting them pause at flowers while drinking nectar.
