Why do spacecraft carry gyroscopes?

Spacecraft use gyroscopes to sense and control which way they are pointing. A gyroscope resists changes to its spin direction. Spacecraft can use that behaviour to measure turns or help adjust orientation. Pointing matters for cameras, antennas, solar panels, and engines, because a tiny angle error can become a big mission problem.
