How do sand dunes move across deserts?
Dunes move when wind lifts grains up one side and drops them over the other. Wind pushes sand grains along the ground and up the gentle slope of a dune. At the top, grains tumble down the steep side. Over time, the whole dune slowly shifts across the desert.
