Why do some rocks have layers like pages?
Layered rocks often form from sediment settling over time. Mud, sand, shells, or ash can pile up in flat sheets. Pressure and minerals slowly turn those layers into rock. Later, erosion may reveal the layers, making the rock look like a stack of pages.
