Why do knees have kneecaps?
Kneecaps help leg muscles pull more strongly and protect the joint. The kneecap sits in front of the knee like a small shield. It changes the angle of the tendon from your thigh muscle, giving the muscle better leverage when you straighten your leg or climb stairs.
