Why do buses kneel at the curb?

Kneeling buses lower the doorway so boarding is easier and safer. Air suspension lets the bus drop closer to the footpath on one side. This reduces the step up for people with prams, walking frames, wheelchairs, or tired legs. It also helps boarding move faster.
