Why do escalator steps disappear at the ends?
Because each step quietly flattens out and slides beneath a toothed comb plate. Hidden tracks guide every step, changing its angle as it travels. Near the top or bottom, the step levels out flat, slips under the comb plate, and loops back inside, ready to rise again.
