How does a guitar tuner hear the right note?

Because a guitar tuner listens closely to how fast the string is vibrating. The moment you pluck a string, it sends out vibrations at a certain speed, or frequency. The tuner listens with a tiny microphone, compares that speed to the right note, and shows you whether to tighten or loosen the string.
