Why do shoelaces come undone?

Shoelaces loosen because walking tugs and shakes the knot again and again. Each step stretches the lace, bangs the knot, and swings the loose ends. Those repeated forces can slowly pull loops through the knot until it slips open. A tighter knot or double knot adds more friction.
