Why does a wet towel feel heavy?
A wet towel feels heavy because water fills spaces between its fibres. Towel fibres have many loops and gaps that hold water by clinging forces. That trapped water adds mass, so lifting the towel takes more effort. Squeezing removes some water by forcing it out of those spaces.
