Why do okapis have striped legs?
Okapi stripes may help young animals hide in patchy forest light. Okapis live in dense rainforest where sunlight breaks into stripes and shadows. The leg pattern can blend with that background, especially for calves. The stripes may also help okapis recognise each other.
