Why do male seahorses carry babies?

Male seahorses carry young because their bodies have a special brood pouch. The female places eggs into the male's pouch. He protects them, controls salt and oxygen around them, and releases tiny seahorses when they are ready. This unusual job shares reproduction in a rare way.
