How do squid squirt ink clouds?

Squid release dark ink to confuse attackers and cover an escape. A squid stores ink in a sac. When threatened, it squeezes ink out with mucus, forming a cloud or decoy shape. While the predator is distracted, the squid jets away using water pushed from its body.
