Why do albatrosses glide for hours?

Albatrosses glide by harvesting energy from ocean winds. Their long narrow wings are perfect for dynamic soaring. They climb into faster wind, turn, then dip into slower air near the waves. Repeating this lets them travel huge distances with little flapping.
