Why is Mars covered in rusty dust?
Mars looks rusty because iron minerals in its dust have reacted with oxygen. Mars rocks contain iron. Over long times, chemical reactions formed iron oxides, similar to rust, giving dust and soil a reddish colour. Winds spread that fine dust across much of the planet.
