How do tides make mudflats?
Tides make mudflats by repeatedly flooding and uncovering muddy shorelines. In sheltered bays, slow water lets fine sediment settle. High tide covers the area, and low tide exposes it. Over time, layers of soft mud build up, creating feeding grounds for many animals.
