Why do some lakes turn pink?
Some lakes turn pink because salty water encourages colourful microbes or algae. In very salty lakes, certain microorganisms make red or pink pigments that help them handle strong sunlight. When conditions are right, their colour can tint the whole lake. Minerals may add to the effect.
