Why do printers need different colour inks?
Because mixing just a few ink colours can create nearly every colour imaginable. Most colour printers rely on cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. Tiny dots of those inks sit close together on the page, and your eyes blend them into brand new colours, while black keeps text looking crisp.
