How does a candle wick pull wax upward?
A candle wick pulls melted wax through tiny spaces between its fibres. Heat from the flame melts nearby wax. The wick's fibres act like narrow tubes, drawing liquid wax upward by capillary action. Near the flame, the wax vaporises and burns.
