How does chalk dust hang in the air?
Chalk dust hangs because tiny particles fall slowly and ride air currents. A chalk mark can break into very small powder grains. Air moving in a room lifts and swirls them, while their small size means gravity pulls them down slowly. Eventually they settle on surfaces.
