Why are some city streets one-way?
One-way streets help cities squeeze safer, smoother movement into crowded spaces. In busy places, streets may be too narrow for cars, buses, bikes and parked vehicles to move both ways easily. Making a street one-way can reduce head-on conflicts, simplify traffic lights and give more room for turning lanes, bike lanes or footpaths.
