How do ports keep track of thousands of shipping containers?
Ports use numbers, scanners and computer systems so each container has a digital trail. Every shipping container has a unique code painted on it, a bit like an international name tag. Cranes, gates and workers scan or record that code as the container arrives, moves through the yard and leaves again.
