Why do some streets have short posts called bollards?
Bollards are small posts that quietly tell vehicles where they should not go. Bollards can protect footpaths, shopfronts, bike lanes, monuments and crowds by stopping or guiding vehicles. Some are simple visual markers; others are strong enough to resist a slow-moving car. Removable or fold-down bollards can let emergency or delivery vehicles through when needed.
