How can an anchor stop a giant ship?
Because an anchor digs firmly into the seabed and holds on through a heavy chain. Shaped just right, an anchor bites into the seabed the moment the ship drifts and pulls on it. The heavy chain matters too, lying along the bottom to keep the pull low and sideways, helping the anchor stay dug in tight.
