How does a toilet cistern stop filling when it is full?
Because a floating part quietly rises with the water and shuts off the valve itself. After a flush, fresh water rushes in through a valve. A float rises right along with the water level, and once it reaches the right height, it pushes a lever that closes the valve, stopping the water exactly on time.
