How does a retractable pen click in and out?
Because a hidden spring and a tiny rotating cam decide whether the tip pops out. Inside a click pen, a spring is always trying to push the ink refill back inside. Press the button, and small plastic parts with angled teeth slide and rotate just slightly, locking the pen open or letting it snap shut.
