How does a kettle switch itself off?
Because rising steam quietly heats a hidden part until it clicks the kettle off. As water boils, steam rises and travels through a small channel to a special strip made from two metals that expand at different rates. Once it gets hot enough, the strip bends sharply and triggers the switch off.
