How does a drill chuck grip different-sized drill bits?
Because three jaws slide inward together, gripping the bit tightly right in the centre. Twisting a drill chuck moves a threaded ring inside, which slides three angled jaws evenly toward the middle or away from it. That clever angle turns your simple twist into a firm, centred grip on any size bit.
