How do railway points move a train onto a different track?
Because shifting rails at a junction quietly guide a train's wheels onto a new path. At a junction, movable rails called switch blades press against one side or the other. A train's wheels simply follow the open path, guided by their flanges. Motors and locking systems make sure the points stay firmly in place before the train arrives.
