How do salmon change before swimming upstream?

Salmon remodel their bodies so they can move from ocean life to a hard river journey. Many salmon hatch in freshwater, grow in the ocean, then return upstream to spawn. Before and during the journey, their bodies change. Hormones shift how their gills handle salt and fresh water. Their colour, jaws and body shape may change, especially in males.
