Why do goats have rectangular pupils?

Rectangular pupils help grazing animals watch wide areas for danger while keeping the ground in focus. Goats are often prey animals, so spotting movement from the side matters. Their horizontal rectangular pupils give them a very wide view of the world, helping them notice predators without lifting their heads much from grazing.
