How do dung beetles use the Milky Way to travel straight?

Some dung beetles use the bright band of the Milky Way as a nighttime compass. After making a ball of dung, a beetle often rolls it away quickly so other beetles do not steal it. To escape in a straight line at night, some species look at patterns of light in the sky.
