Why does cling wrap stick to a bowl without glue?
Cling wrap sticks because its thin plastic can press very closely against smooth surfaces and hold on with tiny electrical attractions. Cling wrap is extremely thin and flexible, so it can mould itself around the rim of a bowl and touch the surface in many places. At those close distances, weak attractions between molecules, called van der Waals forces, can help it cling.
