Why do saiga antelopes have such strange noses?
Because their oversized noses help filter dust and prepare the air they breathe. A saiga's drooping nose is packed with winding passages. In dusty summers, it helps trap particles before they reach the lungs. In freezing winters, those passages warm very cold air before it travels deeper into the animal's body.
