Why do aye-ayes have one extra-long finger?
Because the long middle finger is a specialised tool for finding hidden food. An aye-aye taps wood and listens for hollow spaces made by insect tunnels. It gnaws a small opening, then uses its thin middle finger to hook out grubs. The finger is so specialised that it can move with remarkable control.
