Why do cassowaries have a helmet on their heads?

Because the hard casque may help in several parts of a cassowary's forest life. The tall structure is called a casque. Scientists think it may help cassowaries move through dense vegetation, sense low sounds or display age and condition. Its exact jobs are still being studied, so the casque may be a multi-purpose feature.
