Why do jerboas have such enormous back legs?

Because long hind legs help them leap quickly across open desert ground. Jerboas move mainly by jumping on powerful back legs. Long feet and legs create big, fast leaps, while the tail helps with balance and sudden turns. This springy movement can make it harder for predators to predict exactly where the jerboa will land.
