Why do bowerbirds collect objects of certain colours?

Because carefully arranged objects are part of a courtship display. Male bowerbirds build display structures called bowers, then decorate nearby areas with shells, berries, flowers or human objects. Some species strongly favour particular colours. Females visit and inspect the display, so collecting and arranging objects can influence courtship success.
