Why do decorator crabs wear seaweed and sponges?

Because attaching local materials can help disguise the crab from predators. Decorator crabs hook pieces of algae, sponge and other living material onto tiny bristles on their shells. The covering makes the crab blend into its surroundings. Some decorations may also taste unpleasant or carry defences that discourage predators.
