Why does a Venus flytrap count touches?
Because two quick touches help the plant avoid wasting energy on false alarms. Trigger hairs inside the trap sense movement. One touch might just be rain or falling debris, so the trap usually stays open. A second touch soon after signals real prey and starts a rapid snap shut.
