Human Body
Why do people have different kinds of earwax?
Because a small genetic difference changes how glands in the ear canal make wax. Earwax can be wetter and stickier or drier and flakier. A gene called ABCC11 strongly influences which type a person produces. Both kinds help trap dust and protect ear canal skin; the difference is simply part of normal human variation.
