Why does the little uvula hang at the back of your mouth?
Because it helps the soft palate manage swallowing, moisture and some speech sounds. The uvula is the small tissue hanging from the soft palate. During swallowing, nearby muscles lift the palate to help keep food out of the nose. The uvula also contributes saliva and helps shape certain sounds in some languages.
