Why does your nose run in cold air?
Because your nose adds warmth and moisture to chilly, dry air before it reaches the lungs. Cold air is often dry. The lining of your nose releases moisture and warms incoming air, protecting deeper airways. Cold conditions can also slow normal mucus clearing. Extra liquid may collect and escape from the nostrils, creating a winter runny nose.
