How do hollow lava tunnels form on the Moon?

When the outside of a lava flow hardens while molten rock keeps moving underneath. Ancient lunar lava could flow in rivers. The upper surface cooled first and formed a solid roof. Liquid lava continued moving below and eventually drained away, leaving an empty tunnel. Collapsed roof sections can reveal openings called skylights.
