Space
How can a galaxy bend the light from another galaxy?
Because mass curves spacetime, changing the path that travelling light follows. A massive galaxy or cluster warps the space around it. Light from a more distant object travels through that curved region and changes direction. From Earth, the background object may appear stretched, repeated or formed into a glowing ring.
