Why do some star clusters look like giant glowing balls?

Because hundreds of thousands of old stars are packed into a roughly spherical group by gravity. Globular clusters contain dense swarms of stars orbiting a shared centre. Gravity pulls from every direction, helping the group settle into a rounded shape. The centre becomes especially crowded, so many unresolved stars blend into a bright glowing core.
