How did an astrolabe help people read the sky?
By turning the positions of stars or the Sun into useful angle measurements. An astrolabe uses a rotating sight and marked discs. A user measures the height of a celestial object above the horizon, then reads or calculates information such as time or latitude. Different astrolabes were adapted for astronomy, navigation and teaching.
