Why do some towns use canals like streets?
Because waterways became practical routes for moving people and goods through the settlement. Some settlements grew where water channels already connected homes, farms, markets or ports. Boats could carry heavier loads than people walking narrow paths. As buildings gathered along the water, canals became everyday travel routes and the town developed around them instead of wide roads.
